Commissioner's Meeting Room

A Mayor/Manager form of government, comprised of a mayor and three commissioners, governs the Town of Taylorsville. Effective November 2007, the council will be comprised of a mayor who will have a vote on all issues and four commissioners forming a five member board. Elections are held in November every four years, and all five seats are at-large. The town council appoints a town manager, who is responsible for carrying out policies set by the governing body as well as administrating all affairs of the municipal government.

The Town Council meets the first Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. For more information about town events, services, and information about meetings, visit www.taylorsvillenc.com or contact Taylorsville’s Town Hall at 828-632-2218.

A five-member board of commissioners who are elected to serve four-year terms governs Alexander County. Elections for seats on the governing body take place every two years with no more than three seats available in one election year.

The board of commissioners designates a county manager to serve as the head administrator to all departments under the board’s authority. The county manager’s duties include supervision of all activities performed by the county’s 24 departments. In addition, the manager is responsible for the preparation of the annual county budget; and supervision of appointment of all county officers and any other duties required by the county commissioners. The county manager consults with the county attorney on a regular basis and keeps the county commissioners informed of all aspects of county government and issues at hand.

Regular meetings of the Alexander County Board of Commissioners are held every other Monday in the commission meeting room at the Alexander Campus of Catawba Valley Community College. Specific dates for commission meetings, as well as other information about county government, can be found on the county website at www.alexandercountync.gov. Commission meetings begin at 6 p.m. and are broadcast live on radio station WACB 860 AM. In addition, meetings are videotaped and replayed on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7 p.m. on the Alexander Government Access Channel 3 on the Charter Communications Cable Network.
